Kids Crossing Learning Center

Welcome

Kid's Crossing Learning Center at First United Methodist Church is a nonprofit weekday school. KCLC is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International, (ACSI), and the North Georgia United Methodist Church Preschool.

Our Mission
The mission of Kid's Crossing Learning Center is to provide quality Christian educational programs for children, infant through 12 years of age, in a safe and nurturing environment. Our qualified staff seeks to team with parents to encourage physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual growth through developmentally appropriate activities. As a ministry of First United Methodist Church and a part of the Lawrenceville community, our purpose in all things is to unify children and families with Jesus Christ.

About Our Staff
All staff members are dedicated to the education of young children and participate in a continuous program of in-service training in order to remain alert to the ever-changing needs of today's families and to the findings of current research. All staff members hold a current CPR and First Aid certificate.

Curriculum
Our curriculum day begins at 9:30 am; please make every effort to bring your child to school by that time.

The curriculum at the Kid's Crossing Learning Center is based on the principles that every child is an individual with a unique personality, that each child develops at his/her own pattern of growth, and that children learn through play. The total development of each child is essential; therefore, all areas of growth and development (physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual) are important. The development of a positive self-concept is of utmost importance, as children need to feel worthwhile and competent in order to reach their optimal potential.

Lesson plans are developed weekly and are posted in the classroom. Our classrooms are set up in a learning center configuration, which allows the child to choose his/her activities. The children are guided and encouraged to learn new self-help skills, think for themselves, make choices, experiment, explore, make mistakes, and have a lot of fun.

Kid's Crossing Learning Center uses the WEE Learn Curriculum, which provides the framework on which teachers can build an early childhood program that allows children to grow and develop as Jesus did (mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually). Luke 2:52

Our School Age program for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade focuses on each student's individual talents. Students arrive to a prepared snack, guided homework time, daily devotion, computer time, games, art, science, and outdoor play and sports.

Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday 6:30 am until 6:30 pm.

Nondiscrimination
Kid's Crossing Learning Center will not discriminate in any of its policies or practices dealing with children and/or families based on race, religion, sex, color, national origin, handicap, or status with regard to public assistance.

Family Information and Communication

Throughout the school year, we will assist you by providing continuing information regarding our programs and how they fit the developmental stages that your child experiences. We will keep you informed about field trips, holidays, curriculum, and other important information through our website, newsletters, and your child's teacher. Families of full day students will receive a daily report. Various information, including reminders, snack schedule, and school calendars are located at the sign-in/sign-out area. Please check daily for new information. All families are encouraged to exchange information with their teacher, with the understanding that arrival and departure times are not the time for a parent-teacher conference. If you need to schedule a conference, please place a note in your child's daily folder and his/her teacher will attempt to contact you the next day.

Parents can participate in regularly scheduled conferences twice a year to discuss their child's developmental progress. These are usually held in the fall and the spring of the year. In the event you are unable to schedule a time for a private conference during school hours, our teachers will discuss your child's progress with you over the phone.

Families are encouraged to discuss any questions or concerns with the Director about the policies and procedures of KCLC. Please call in advance to ensure proper time commitment to your concerns.

Families of KCLC will be notified in writing of any changes to this handbook.

Special Needs Children
Children with mild physical handicaps and/or developmental delays are enrolled at the discretion of the Director. Every attempt will be made to accommodate a special child in our program. If it is determined that a child is having difficulty adjusting to school, is frustrated with the learning environment, or is a disruption for the other children, the Director will be called to observe. With parental consent, a specialist from Gwinnett County School Public System may come to observe, make suggestions and conferences with the parents. When appropriate, an IEP (Individualized Education Program) will be implemented. However, our program may not be able to accommodate every child's needs. If the health, safety, or welfare of a special needs child or other children is at risk, or the teacher is unable to teach the other children in the class due to the needs of a particular child, then the child will be asked to leave the program.
